-Log Cabin Forest-

This wall hanging was made for the House of Fabrics 1997 competition " Quilting in the Pines ". It was chosen as one of the finalists - the prize winners are to be announced shortly. The central panel is made up of simple machine pieced log cabin style trees. All the applique was fused and machine stitched using a blanket stitch. The rules stated that most of the fabrics had to be purchased at House of Fabrics so I used all cotton plaids except for the border background which is Osnaburg, a nubby, rustic fabric. These suited the theme but were not my original choice. My local store had a very limited collection of greens so I was guided into using the plaids. The end result was much more pleasing than my original idea ! The hanging is machine quilted. Needless to say, I was very pleased to have been chosen as a finalist. This was the third time I entered their annual competition.
